Gunslinger Costumes for Children
Dressing up in an old west gunfighter costume is a great way to go out trick or treating this Halloween.
And gunslinger costumes for children are a great way to let them share in all the Halloween fun.
So don’t leave your little Billy (or Sally) the Kid out of the fun and all the festivities. And here’s a few tips to help you dress your child up in a gunslinger costume.
First of all, start with a basic pair of blue jeans and a long sleeved shirt. The shirt could be a denim button down shirt, or white, or even plaid. And if you wanted to you could even accessorize their blue jeans and cowboy shirt with a black or denim vest or, even better, a western style jacket with fringe or a more authentic cowboy duster.
Boots of some kind are pretty much a necessity to all western costumes. So in this case your gunslinger costumes for children should include some western or cowboy boots to look really authentic.
Want to make them even better? Why not put fake spurs on the back of your child’s boots to look like they’ve been riding their trusty horse all day.
What else? Well, how about a belt with a large silver or gold buckle? This could certainly help you complete your child’s basic gunslinger outfit. Other ideas include hooking a length of rope through one of your belt loops as well.
Need a few more tips for creating the perfect gunslinger costume for children? All gunslingers wear a hat so get a black cowboy
hat if you want to be a bad guy, and wear a white cowboy hat if you want to be a good guy. If you’re going for the good guy look, pin a sheriff’s or deputy’s badge on your vest or jacket. Tie a short red scarf or bandanna around your neck. Wear a black scarf if you’re a bad guy.
Now for the most important part of any gunslinger costumes for children – the gun and holster. Toys guns and holsters can be found in almost any store that carries toys.
You can find really inexpensive sets at dollar stores, especially. Make sure you get a toy gun with an orange cap on the end to identify it as a toy.
Sadly, a lot of people will mistake toys for real guns now. Other ideas include the fact that gunslingers wear their holsters kind of low on the hips, so make sure you get one big enough to fit your child correctly.
You could even draw a fake mustache and goatee on with some Halloween makeup to get that Old West look. Blacken in the eyebrows too. You could also make your child’s face look dirty with brown and black makeup if you want them to look like they just won a gunfight.
Remember, gunslingers back in the old west didn’t shower every day and you’ll want to add a little extra dirt to make your gunslinger costumes for children look especially realistic – most kids will love this part.
Boys especially will love this tip! For a more gruesome Halloween touch, cut out a bullet hole on your shirt sleeve or vest and paint around it with red washable paint to look like you’ve been shot in your most recent gun fight.
For final touches an old west gunslinger could carry a trick or treat bag with a big gun and cowboy hat painted on it. They could also pin a sheriff’s badge on their bag.
So, just follow these tips when putting together your gunslinger costumes for children and your child will look like a real old west gunfighter!
